“Yeah, about last night”

This phrase has spawned the awkward exchange of difficult questions and the even more off setting answers. While this question is usually reserved for some indiscretions between couples, it fits quite nicly here. According to the Mayan calendar the whole was to end yesterday. If you are reading this, congratulation you are one of the estimated 7 billion survivors.

So about the end of the world, why do we so fixate on such a morbid topic. My thoughts are with most things there is a beginning and a end. Obivously, the world had a beginning (we will most likely attack this issue later)so by contrast there must be an end. There are so many opinions on what the end would look like. While Hollywood paints pictures of viruses, wars, aliens, and who could forget zombies, the Bible depicts more of a different approach.

Mayan I ask you a question?

Which is the more ideal outcome for you in the end of the world scenario?

I enjoy many entertainment outlet. As I was describing the different ways Hollywood has tried to end the world, I was thinking of the movies and shows with those themes. While I admitted did root for an Atlanta cop and group trying to survive with a bunch of dead pedestrians, the thought did occur to me that pulse challenged individuals were not there by choice. It seemed for whatever reason some people became one thing, while the others stay the “same”. So while we cheer through the chaos and carnage realize in the terms of the show that could have been anyone including you. So the faceless herds aren't evil just unlucky. Yeah and no thank you.

Alien have their own hot mess of problems. It seems that people fall into three catagories. We either annoy them, confuse them, or just are plain in the way. Anyway you slice it an alien encounter just doesn't seem to work out well for us, unless your Will Smith or that whiny kid in the Transformers movies. I am not overly fond of being a hamster in a wheel or being consider a speed-bump on the interstellar highway of life. Without asking any more probing questions let's move on.

By the way, if you want to survive an alien invasion don't stand next the high profile actor in the movie.

Wars still fall in the same train of thought except instead of someone else wiping us off the planet, we do it ourselves. Kind of goes with the old saying if you want something done right do yourself, right? We talk about peace but we can all tend to be babies fighting over the same side of the playpen if you know what I mean.

Personally, I don't like any of those ideas. I don't have that kind of luck. I would be the newly transformed zombie captured by alien with a kick me sign standing next to Tom Cruise.

Well then we are all in trouble, right?

Well no because we can have hope. The bible does tells what the end of the world will look like. It tells us that no one knows but God when it will end. God gives us a hope of a new heaven and earth that is eternal rather than a world left in shambles. It will be awesome, but don't take my word for it.

Look at His:

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 (NIV)
Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, [2] for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Revelation 21:2-4 (NIV)
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. [4] He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

This is an ending with some hope. To experience that hope is yours for the taking,if you only believe in Christ. It is Christ that bring life into our lives pass the end of the things we know and understand.

But again I want to congratulate all the survivors out there from the Mayan calendar appointment we all heard about. The next question is had last night really been it what would you have done differently and why would you have waited until the end of everything to finally live? As a survivor would do, let's start living now and next week we will talk about getting off the starting blocks right.
